Curaloe Soothing Aloe Vera Gel β 150ml Single-Ingredient Inner-Leaf Cosmetic
A single-ingredient inner-leaf aloe vera gel from our South African plantation. Lightweight, clear, non-greasy β the climate-adaptive cosmetic staple that works in Cape Town's wind, Joburg's altitude UV, and Durban's humidity.
Why this product
- πΏ Single ingredient β inner-leaf Aloe barbadensis Miller, that's it
- π§ Lightweight & non-occlusive β won't clog pores or feel heavy
- π Climate-adaptive β works across SA's three major climate zones
- πΏπ¦ Grown, harvested and processed in South Africa at our ACAP plantation
- β Free from added fragrance, dyes, parabens, alcohol, sulphates
What it is
A clear, lightweight cosmetic gel made from a single ingredient: inner-leaf Aloe barbadensis Miller, harvested and cold-pressed at our ACAP plantation in the Eastern Cape, South Africa.
No fragrance, no dyes, no alcohol, no parabens, no sulphates. The ingredient list is short because we've worked to make sure it can be.
What it isn't
- Not a treatment for acne, eczema, rosacea, or any other skin condition. It's a cosmetic.
- Not an anti-ageing miracle. It's a gentle, climate-adaptive everyday cosmetic.
- Not a "rescue" product. It's a daily-use building block.
- Not gendered. Works the same on any adult skin.
Why aloe gel earns its place in an SA skincare routine
South Africa doesn't have one climate. Cape Town, Joburg and Durban produce very different skincare conditions across the year. Most cosmetic moisturisers are built for a fixed climate assumption β they work well in their intended environment and less well outside it.
Inner-leaf aloe gel is one of the few single ingredients that adapts across climates:
- In Cape Town's dry windy summer: it binds water to wind-stripped skin without adding occlusive heaviness
- In Joburg's altitude UV: it serves as a buffer layer between active ingredients (vitamin C, retinol) and your moisturiser, reducing irritation
- In Durban's humid summer: it often functions as a complete moisturiser on its own β the humidity does the rest
This climate versatility is the reason it appears in every routine in our Skincare cluster.
What's inside
- *99%+ inner-leaf Aloe barbadensis Miller juice/gel* (cold-pressed, decolourised)
- Minimal preservation system (food-grade, cosmetic-approved)
Free from:
- Fragrance / parfum
- Essential oils
- Synthetic dyes
- Alcohol (denatured)
- Sulphates
- Parabens

How to use it
Apply a thin layer to clean damp skin, morning and/or evening. Allow 2-3 minutes to absorb before adding additional skincare layers or makeup.
Specific applications:
- As a daily moisturiser for oily, blemish-prone, or normal skin in humid climates
- As a hydrating buffer layer in any climate, between cleanser and your usual moisturiser
- As a soothing layer between strong actives (retinol, AHA/BHA, vitamin C) and your moisturiser, to reduce irritation
- After sun exposure on clean, lukewarm-water-washed skin
- After shaving as a soothing aftershave step (works for men too β see our men's 3-product routine)
- On hands and body for dry patches, knuckles, elbows
- After-flight skin on long-haul travel days
Who this is for
Adults looking for a gentle, climate-adaptive cosmetic gel with a short ingredient list. Especially relevant if you:
- Have oily or blemish-prone skin and need a non-occlusive moisturiser
- Live in multiple SA climates (move between coast and inland regularly)
- Use active ingredients (retinol, vitamin C, acids) and need a buffer
- Have sensitive skin and prefer minimal-ingredient products
- Are post-sun regularly (beach, outdoor work, sport)
- Want skincare without fragrance, dyes, or unnecessary additives
Who this is not for
- People with diagnosed skin conditions (acne, eczema, rosacea, dermatitis) β please consult a dermatologist for treatment; this is a cosmetic, not medicine
- People with known aloe allergy (uncommon, but it exists)
- Children under 3 years without adult supervision and patch testing
- Open wounds, sunburn blistering, or severely damaged skin β see a healthcare professional
Storage & shelf life
Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight. Cap firmly between uses. Best used within 12 months of opening. Best-before date on the tube.
Patch test if it's your first aloe product
True aloe allergy exists in a small percentage of people. We recommend a proper 7-day patch test before adding any new product to your routine, especially if you have sensitive or reactive skin.
FAQ
Is this an acne treatment? No β it's a cosmetic. Persistent acne needs a dermatologist's input. Our post on aloe skincare for oily/blemish-prone skin covers what cosmetics can and can't do in that context.
Will it clog my pores? Inner-leaf aloe gel is consistently rated very low on comedogenic scales β significantly lower than most facial moisturisers. For oily and blemish-prone skin, it's one of the safer single-ingredient choices.
Can I use it under sunscreen and makeup? Yes. Let it absorb for 2-3 minutes after application before adding the next layer to avoid pilling.
Can I use it on my body, not just my face? Yes β hands, knuckles, elbows, shoulders after sun, body in general. The 150ml tube is sized primarily for face use but it works anywhere.
Why is it clear and not green? Pure inner-leaf aloe is naturally clear, not bright green. Bright-green aloe products usually contain added colourant.
Does it sting? On healthy skin, no. On freshly-exfoliated, sunburnt, or compromised skin, you may feel a faint cool tingling that subsides within seconds. If it actively burns or itches, stop using and rinse off β that's an allergic reaction signal.
What's the texture like? Clear, lightweight, slightly viscous. Spreads easily, absorbs in 2-3 minutes, doesn't leave a sticky or greasy residue.
Can men use it? Yes β see our 3-product men's skincare routine for a compressed routine built around this gel.
Can children use it? For children 3 and older, generally yes for short-term cosmetic use (post-sun, after-shaving for older boys, hand moisturiser). Patch test first. Under 3, consult a paediatrician.
Is this organic-certified? The aloe is grown under organic-aligned practices but we haven't pursued formal organic certification for cost reasons (the sustainability post explains why). Independent batch testing is part of our QC.
Is the packaging recyclable? The tube body is recyclable in standard SA recycling streams. The cap is also recyclable but separates better when removed. We're working on improvements to packaging materials.
